The Hong Kong British National (Overseas) visa allows eligible Hong Kong residents and their close family members to live, work and study in the UK. It is designed to give BN(O) status holders and their households a clear route to settle in the UK and, eventually, to apply for indefinite leave to remain and British citizenship. There are two main application routes: the Status Holder route and the Household Member route.

Status Holder Route
This route is for anyone who holds BN(O) status, whether or not they currently have a valid BN(O) passport. Applicants can include a partner, dependent children, and in certain cases other close family members, as long as they live in the same household. Normally, the BN(O) status holder must have their permanent home in Hong Kong, the UK, or the Crown Dependencies when applying.
Household Member Route
This route is for adult family members, such as a spouse, civil partner, unmarried partner, or adult child, who live in the same household as a BN(O) status holder but do not themselves hold BN(O) status. Household members must apply at the same time as, or later join, the BN(O) status holder. Proof of relationship and evidence of living together are required.
Length of Stay and Conditions
BN(O) visas are granted for either 2 years and 6 months, or 5 years, and can be extended. Holders are allowed to work in any job, study at any level, and travel freely in and out of the UK. After 5 years of continuous residence in the UK, most applicants can apply for settlement.
How to Apply
Applications are submitted online to the UK Home Office. You must pove BN(O) status, or your relationship to a BN(O) status holder (for household members) and provide a valid passport or travel document. Regarding any accompanying family members, you are required to show evidence of living together and demonstrate you can financially support yourself and your dependants for at least 6 months.
While the BN(O) visa process is relatively straightforward, missing evidence or unclear documentation can lead to delays or refusal. Our agency ensures all requirements are met, guides you step-by-step, and manages the application for the smoothest possible outcome.
